ART101 Week 1 Discussion 2 Art Interpretation The Arnolfini Portrait

The key components that were discussed in the interpretations was that they thought it was a picture of a wedding picture. But come to find out the woman on the right in the green had passed away and she was a Italian merchant . Some details that was shared regarding the method, tools , subjects , and social implications of the art was as followed . The art piece had a portrait about his wealth which symbolized the hands coming together . It showed their shoes off which symbolized a sacred moment . It showed food on a window seal which was a sign of wealth and back then oranges was very expensive . Also in the 15th century they didn’t have bedrooms they had rooms where you received visitors at . 

 An example of symbolism that was identified in the art work was a dog in the portrait . Dog is a symbol of fidelity and or loyalty .  This analysis differed a whole lot from what I depicted the picture was . At first I thought it was just a picture with a husband , wife ,and their dog just taking a family picture until I watched the whole video to get a main synopses of the symbolism of what was all in the photo .
