ART101 Week 3 Discussion 2 Regional Characteristics Reflected in Art

Two works of art that I chose was from Italy and Spain. The one from Italy was a picture of Madonna and her son. The picture I chose from Spain was a picture of a altarpiece. The similarities of the pictures they both have people in the pictures that are nice and colorful. Also, both pictures have a baby in the both of them that consist of one of the parents with the baby. The picture from Spain, The Baptism of Christ made before they were cradled show that the horizontal battens had already been removed, though the nail holes are still visible. A broad brush under drawing is visible with infrared reflectography, particularly in the face of the Virgin, the body of the Christ Child, and the face of the kneeling magus. ( De Flandes 1496-1519) In the Picture from Italy shows the Madonna and Child introduces a new naturalistic trend in painting. Instead of making the blessing gesture of a philosopher, the infant Christ grasps his mother’s left index finger in a typically baby-like way as he playfully reaches for the flower that she holds. (Miklos1935-2011) The pictures both symbolizes Christ like things . They are both unique and reflective of their region movement because of both of their cultural backgrounds.
