BUS308 Assignments Week 1 - Discussion 3
The 3rdLecture has been helpful in understanding and working through the excel portion of the assignment. Which had me second guessing myself a couple of days ago. However, that was due to me not looking at all the material I needed to and understand what I should have done before. I can appreciate the fact that the information I broken down this way, but I have to admit that I was really confused on what was going on in the beginning. This class has been different in the approach of statistics and while it can be helpful, I think the material is organized in a way that had me questioning the path I was headed. Reading the 3rdLecture made things a little clearer as to what I was supposed to do and made me feel more at ease. I wonder if anybody else in the class had the same confusion and concerns about how the material is setup? I know I am different, and I see things different, but I know everyone is different in their own way and I would like to have some input on how others felt about the lectures?
On another note descriptive statistics on a variable that may be important in answering the question about equal pay would be performance rating and degree. While a lot can determine a personās dependability and marketability, I would look these two items could be important. Degree is not always an indicator of a personās abilities, but it shows they can be committed. But the Performance rating tells me what an employee is capable of doing depending on their rating score. In the Navy we look for āSustain Superior Performanceā when giving personnel high rating and rankings amongst their peers. This increases their chances for promotion in the area of points when taking an advancement test for promotion. Which equates to more money if you get promoted to the next paygrade. According to an article for the Bureau of Labor Statistics one of the factors that can determine a personās pay is their success and performance (Torpey, 2015). If someone can work more independently than someone who needs constant supervision and rework should get paid more than the next person doing the same job. While I have not researched what the data offers I will before the week is out and provide interpretation of my results.
