BUS308 Assignments Week 2 - Discussion 2

Practically all of the information is foreign to me in this lecture. I am unsure of how the means can be different from the claim or a standard. I feel as though I have a better understanding of the F-test but the T-test is a bit fuzzy. The distribution piece is not completely clear to me; I do not see when statistics provide such solid answers, why we are making assumptions in this section? The only way in can I visualize this is that a baseline is needed. PĆ©rez-SĆ”nchez, & Senent-Aparicio (2018) states; ā€œThere is a broad range of distribution functions that can be fitted according to the study area, so that each region requires a detailed study that reveals the statistical functions that fits the best and therefore should be used for a better understanding of the behavior of such basinā€ (PĆ©rez-SĆ”nchez, & Senent-Aparicio, 2018). The results will vary vastly depending on the researcher’s input data. Before tonight, I had never heard the term ā€œdegrees of freedomā€ used in conjunction with statistics. The ā€œone-tail testā€ is also new to me, but seems easy to comprehend. If I am interpreting it correctly, it would mean whether one male’s salary is less than or more than one female’s, and that would be the direction, when compared singularly. However, I do not see the need to double it. I will have to place a note to remind myself not to employ the ā€œFxā€ when seeking the one-tail value; I can see this becoming an issue for me.

I believe I could apply these ideas when researching a company or department to seek employment with. I would gain knowledge of how much pay, awards, and personal advancement rate potential is available within the company, to name a few items. Additionally, when I am a manager, implementing procedures to more efficiently manage a staff or increase production, these tests would illustrate how much minute changes would affect various outcomes. I would be able to plug numbers in, my hypothesis to receive desired results. Employee production may possibly improve if I can place them effectively in a position to maximize their talents.
