BUS340 Week 2 Discussion 1 Successful Business Communication

Price (2014) presents ten communication etiquette aspects that one needs to be committed to in a view to enhance business communication at a personal level. The one that I find so hard to adopt successfully is that of remembering the name. I have read elsewhere that people are attached to their own names. One feels great to just be called by name. It shows respect and commitment to the relationship there is. However, I am consistently poor with names. I find it hard to remember a person’s name especially the first few days.

At one point, I called a client the wrong name. The disappointment was out rightly registered on his face although he did not mention it. He, however, corrected me immediately. It was embarrassing. I lost the confidence to engage with him further. As such, it is important to work on the challenging areas in professional communication. These days, I have keep names close to myself. Especially when a meeting is pre-planned, I ensure that I do my homework properly. I remind myself what names to the people I am meeting is. In so doing, I am able to remain close to the information needed about a particular person. I have seen it enhance our relationships and business deals have been sealed courtesy of my initiatives to remember the names of the people I meet.
