BUS340 Week 2 Discussion 2 Write It Right

Explain the appropriate times to use first person and when to use third person, according to Types of Writing.

Each type of academic writing requires good register for effective communication. In this light, there are different times when to use first person approach in writing. Ashford writing center specifies these times. For example, it is appropriate to use first person narrative when writing a reflective essay. This allows the student to reflect on particular lessons learned (Ashford University, 2019). As well, when writing a discussion post, one may be required to use the first person narrative. Nonetheless, this is determined by the instructions. When writing a reply to a discussion post, however, it is important to use the first person since this entails communicating personal opinion about what another person has written.

Describe the three elements of ā€œAcademic Voiceā€ and how you will incorporate these elements into your academic writing.

There are three elements of academic voice:

Making declarative statements: Use of declarative statements facilitates usage of literature to support academic position of the writer. This stamps authority and authenticity of the writer thus boosting the validity of the tasks offered.

Avoid casual language: Use of formal language gives the write-up authority and authenticity. It makes the voice believable and dependable. Besides, it removes the element of subjectivity and makes it possible for the writer to embrace objectivity in writing.

Develop an authoritative register: An authoritative register is necessary to give an impetus to the document. It gives it power to be believed and depended on.

Describe the goal of research writing and why it is important to ā€œfollow the evidenceā€ and use the evidence to draw conclusions.

The goal of research writing is to offer evidence-based knowledge that can facilitate understanding of a phenomenon. As such, use of literature evidence makes the work authentic and reliable. As such, relying on evidence fosters making conclusions that can be relied on by others as well as avoiding the research work being trivialized for lack of merits.
