BUS600 Week 3 Discussion Forum 1

Effective Body Language for Organizational Success .

Value of nonverbal communication

Nonverbal communication is vital in our lives because it helps us relate, engage, and build meaningful interactions (Schneider et al., 2017). Body language, or nonverbal communication, can take many forms and be interpreted differently by various people. Even the absence of such nonverbal cues can be significant and might be considered nonverbal communication.

Miscommunication issues

Miscommunication occurs when one or both interlocutors make a mistake in communicating their opinions or misunderstand each other(Park & Lee, 2021). These shortcomings might have a variety of causes, but they almost always end in confusion and dissatisfaction for both parties involved.

Technology

Technology, as ironic as it may seem, has fostered miscommunication as much as it has made the globe smaller and smarter. Because of the lack of body language, tone, and facial expressions, communications might be misconstrued, leading to a variety of assumptions and conflict.

Hierarchy

Communication has been shown to be influenced by social structures. It is difficult for supervisors and leaders to bridge the communication gap with their subordinates. Social conventions, as well as other emotions like jealousy and arrogance, can stifle communication and manifest themselves in the tone of speech or the words selected, resulting in a massive rift. Empathy, open-mindedness, and humility might help reduce misinterpretation in these situations.

How to address the above issues

One method to deal with the issue of technology is to communicate in a more traditional manner: face-to-face. Facial expressions and body language are used in person discussions to correct any unintended effects and make intentions between the interlocutors obvious. The best ways of solving such issues is by being a good listener, understanding your body language and avoiding interruptions.
