BUS600 Week 5 Discussion Forum 2

Advantages of telephone

Telephones are the most used means of communication in various businesses and communications. One of the reasons is that it is used for confidentiality. The lines used in telephones are usually assigned to one individual and cannot be shared (Block & Erskine, 2012). This makes it easy to pass on confidential information to the intended receiver without interruption by other parties.

Telephones are also used by managers because they are less expensive compared to other means of relaying information. The telephones are also quite simple and quick to use hence can play a part in passing on emergency calls.

Telephones are also used by managers for company meetings and conference calls regardless of one’s location. The telephones also provide remote access to people in various places and does not include face to face interactions. Distance is not a barrier and neither is time since they are available and accessible at any time of the day or night.

According to (Block & Erskine, 2012) managers also used telephones to aid in business by marketing new products and even reaching out to new markets and clients anywhere and everywhere. The telephones also have a tracking system which enhance the security of information passed and also the users since one may go missing.

Disadvantages of telephone

The telephones, however, can be quite expensive for video calls and SMS which limits the time for conference video calls. The telephones can also cause an imbalance in times of work and socialization leading to delays in the organizations.

Since telephones are used to pass sensitive and private information, it may lead to miscommunication especially when passing on information via text. The telephones are also electronic and may experience security breach thereby putting out all the information in it at risk (Block & Erskine, 2012). This in turn may lead to blackmails and harassment that shake up the company or organization.

The telephones can only be used in places with good network coverage. This makes it impossible for the managers to reach people who are not within the range of the network coverage.
