Module 1 Diagnostic Quiz Reflection

It has been almost 15 years since I have had to focus on scholarly writing and APA formatting, so the diagnostic quizzes provided me with slight unease. Upon taking the diagnostic quizzes, I found that I have mainly strengths with a few weaknesses.

Many of my strengths were in the areas of structure and formatting. It was a relief to understand that although it had been quite some time since I had to utilize this style of writing and formatting, I haven’t entirely forgotten how to use them appropriately. There were two main weaknesses, one on each of the diagnostic quizzes. The first weakness was in the area of ā€œParagraph Transitionsā€ (Walden, n.d.), and the other was in ā€œAvoiding Biasā€ (Walden, n.d.). It was helpful to go through each module for these two areas. There were quite a few things about paragraph transitions that I do not recall ever learning, and much clarity was provided regarding bias and how to avoid including it within my writing.

Understanding the strengths and weaknesses I have regarding scholarly writing and formatting has proven valuable already. As I begin to work on and complete assignments, I have already utilized elements from the different modules. What I have learned will help ensure my success as I work towards achieving a Master’s in Education.
