Module 2 Discussion 1

The topic I plan to research is understanding how reading strategies can influence students reading fluency and comprehension. I am currently pursuing my MSED in Elementary Literacy and Mathematics. This research topic relates to my field of study by demonstrating the importance of various reading strategies based on diverse needs of the student population.

Three possible research questions I have decided upon are:

1. How can I use strategy xyz with struggling readers to improve student achievement in reading fluency and comprehension?
2. How can I use educational video games to improve student reading fluency and comprehension?
3. How can I use oral reading skill strategies to improve student communication skills?

The research questions I selected will be effective in guiding viable research exploration as they are all problems which I have encountered during my first year in the classroom. When using the Litmus Test to test my possible research questions, each question met the required criteria (Walden University, 2017). I will be completing practical action research as I work to address a specific problem encountered with the walls of my classroom (Mertler, 2020).
