EXP105_G30 Assignments Week 3 – Journal- Personal Learning Strategies

Part 1

1. (Vincent: S-Avoid, P-Use as Needed, TR-Use First, C-Use as Needed)

Two things that Vincent could have done to be more successful would be to review feedback from his instructors and to start earlier. Two strategies that Vincent could have used to FIT his learning patterns more intentionally: 1. Forge his Use First Sequence by choosing to make a plan for the next week that gives more time for assignments sooner, and 2. Intensify his Use as Needed Precision by gathering more information before starting, so that he will be able to write a full-length paper.

2. (Cari: S-Use as Needed, P-Use First, TR-Avoid, C-Use as Needed

Cari should ask more questions and tell herself the truth that doing poorly in an assignment is not the definition of failure. Two strategies that Cari could have used to FIT her learning patterns more intentionally: 1. Tether her Use First Precision by skim-reading more of her sources and remembering that there is no need to get every word. She should look for the big picture: headings, boldface words, pictures, etc. And, 2. Intensify her Use as Needed Confluence to keep Use First Precision from stymieing Cari’s creativity.

3. (Duane: S-Use First, P-Use First, TR-Use as Needed, C-Use First)

Duane should recognize his Strong-Willed Learner personality and choose to engage more in the Mulling step before starting an assignment. He should listen more carefully to what peers and instructors have to say about his work, and adjust accordingly. Two strategies that Darren could have used to FIT his learning patterns more intentionally: 1. Intensify his Technical Reasoning by drawing on his problem-solving skills to help decode the assignment instructions, and 2. He should tether his Confluence so that the only ideas he is coming up with are on-topic for the assignment. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Part 2

Directions: Critically review the concept of FIT in Section 3.4 as well as the sample strategies in Tables 3.10-3.12. In the chart below, list the level of use for each of your Learning Patterns. Then, identify at least one personal learning strategy that can help you forge, intensify, or tether that Learning Pattern based on the level you use that Pattern. Your strategy can come from the tables in Section 3.4 or you can come up with one that better works for you, just be sure that you’re using your own words when describing the chosen strategy.

Once completed, you’ll have a table of personalized learning strategies specific to your Pattern combination. You are encouraged to add to this table as you identify additional strategies that help you FIT your Patterns.
