GEN499 Discussion Week 3 Final Paper Progress

The global societal issue I chose for my research is climate change.Ā  The topic of climate change has been overlooked for a very long period. However, climate change affects the world negatively. It is associated with decreased agricultural production since most farmers across the world are unable to predict weather patterns. In addition, climate change is associated with global warming which is associated with rise in temperatures in the atmosphere. These are just some of the effects of climate change. However, there is the need to conduct research to determine the effects of climate change. There is also the need to conduct research to determine the causes of climate change across the world.

Thesis statement: Climate change negatively affects people across the world.Ā  However, climate change can be avoided by planting more trees across the world and reducing the use of fuels which lead to global warming. This essay argues that climate change has negative effects across the world.Ā  The essay will mainly focus on global warming and decreased agricultural production.

The effects of climate change are felt all over the world. However, it is known that it adversely affects farmers. This leads to a decline in agricultural production across the world. This is caused by farmers being unable to predict the weather patterns as a result of climate change. Global warming that results from climate change is also unfavorable for some crops.

The surprising statistic I found is that in Yatta Subcounty which is found in Kenya,Ā  there is still a decline in agricultural production despite most farmers being aware of climate change. From the study, it was found that 98% of farmers are aware of climate change. However, The decline in yields was by 43% (Agesa et al., 2019).
