GEN499 Discussion Week 5 Reflecting on General Education and Career

I have acquired several skills that will make me successful at the job. First,  I have learnt communication skills. These skills are important in the interaction with the students and giving them instructions. Second, I have learnt about ethical and non-ethical behavior. This is significant in making me behave in a way that I can be a role model to the students. This will in turn make students learn how to be ethical too. Third, I have learnt problem-solving skills. I learnt this through the discussion on critical thinking skills. Fourth, I have acquired interpersonal skills. This will enable me in appreciating diversity. It is expected that most students come from different backgrounds. Finally,  learning is one of the skills I acquired. This will help me understand what the students expect from me and I will correct wherever I go wrong. I will be able to learn from my past mistakes.

The knowledge and skills  I have acquired have shaped both my personal and professional development. Personally, they have helped me in knowing how to interact with others.  For example, am now able to interact with friends freely considering we are all from different backgrounds. Professionally, they have have helped me in developing a professional attitude. For example, I know I have to be ethical in everything I do.

I can use the education acquired to mentor the young school-going children in the community. I can teach the young children in the community about ethical and non-ethical behaviors. This will make them grow up knowing how to behave. I can also teach them critical thinking skills. This can make them learn problem-solving skills.
