INF103 Week 1 Discussion 2 Innovations in Hardware and Software

After reviewing chapters 2 and 3, along with previous knowledge I would describe software and hardware as 2 components that work together but are very different. Hardware is the physical object, such as the CPU, monitor, keyboard, all of the accessories are the hardware of a computer. Software is a more advanced program that you apply to a computer to retrieve a certain coding language. The most popular software would most likely be Microsoft Windows.

There are so many revolutionary changes in the computing time to pick only two for hardware and software was a little tricky. For software I would say that the one of the biggest moments was in 1981 when MS-DOS was released. The reason I see this as a big moment is because Microsoft still operates on this type of language. The 1990s was also a really important time for computer advancement, Microsoft released 3.0 that could run multiple programs on its microprocessor.

Hardware develop was also big in the 90’s, the first super computer in 1990 was able to process satellite images and use simulations for medical research. It is hard to pick most important moments for hardware advancement as they were all important, but I would say the technology of the Bombe was extremely advanced for being developed in 1941. The ability to decode military messages brought a big advantage in war time situations.
