INF103 Week 4 Discussion 2 Web 2.0

In the article about Identity theft the following are some of the major points that talks about Identity.“Studies show that every minute nearly 20 people fall victim to financial identify theft, damaging their credit in the process,” said Jay Foley, founder of the Identity Theft Resource Center. “We are responding by offering the Debix Identity Protection because of its ability to help stop fraud before it occurs. It is a simple solution for a complicated problem. We call it the instant credit safeguard."(Debix Inc., Austin) "

“The Identity Theft Resource Center is the definitive resource to address identity theft,” said Julie Fergerson, vice president of Emerging Technology for Debix and founder of the Merchant Risk Council. “I am honored that Debix has been selected by the ITRC.” One of the issues about Identity theft that has not only impacted the individual but also millions of peoples income as it states in the article: “The information explosion, aided by an era of easy credit, has led to the expansion of identify theft, making it more difficult for consumers to control who has access to sensitive information. According to a 2006 Javelin Identity Fraud Report, identity theft cost U.S. businesses and consumers $56.6 billion in 2005.” One of the ethical issues is the fact that it is very easy for people to apply for loans online and in person. This is a huge issue because when applying to one site at times your information gets distribute to various lenders without you even knowing yet. This makes is very easy for our personal information to be distributed and exposed. I believe that this is one of the ethical issues that has been brought up in the article. The exposure of personal data gives the ability for identity theft to occur.
