Course Description This is an intensive course in intermediate financial accounting theory and practice concepts like accounting for investments, liabilities, retirement plans, income taxes, and shareholders' equity. The course balances the study of accounting theory and applied learning exercises, such as the use of data analysis tools in the application of accounting practices and procedures.

Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Apply accounting theory in evaluating complex financial instruments.
  • Analyze debt and equity sources of financing using the conceptual framework and GAAP.
  • Evaluate other complex reporting issues in accounting such as pensions, leases, deferred taxes, and post-retirement benefits using the conceptual framework and GAAP.
  • Compare and contrast GAAP and IFRS with respect to GAAP issues related to this course.
  • Integrate biblical principles within the field of accounting.
