Computer Ethics

Cyberloafing has become a significant issue to companies today. Cyberloafing costs companies millions of dollars each year. As a result, some companies have chosen to use various technologies to either prevent or catch employees that are spending their time online or on their phones doing non-work related activities such as shopping, playing games, or socializing. Do some research on cyberloafing. What are the costs to companies? How much time do employees spend doing non-work related activities? What are some of the tools employers are using? What are the laws in your state related to the use of these tools? Do you think the use of these tools is ethical? Why or why not?

Your first post should be on or before Saturday and a minimum of 100 words. Include a link to any site you used to help you respond to the question. Make sure you respond substantively to at least two classmates.

Answer: Hello Professor Bob and Class,

The cost of cyber-loafing can be detrimental to a company if employees are not being responsible and focusing one work first and when non-work e-mailing is becoming rampant(people love to socialize) it has an estimated that companies lose annually 50 billion. It has been noted that employees tend to spend around almost a quarter of their time cyber-loafing. Employers are monitoring employees position, personally at my job we can pull up what they are doing at the exact moment or if we have a question about a phone call or if they had an error

during a call we will pull the video to see if it is user error though in my position we are not really looking for employees cyber-loafing but we do take what websites they are using or browser if they are having an error. The laws are pretty much sided with the companies since most people sign a release closure statement saying whatever they do on a company device is the company’s prerogative. I think it is perfectly fine for a company to monitor or have security policies in place not only for the safety of company material but also to ensure employees are putting work first.
