  1. What is composting and how does it work?

Composting is the natural process of recycling decomposed organic material. It turns into rich soil called compost. Everything that was once living will decompose. This will return nutrients back into the soil which allows the cycle of life to continue.

  1. What types of materials can be composted?

Natural foods such as, Fruit, vegetables, leaves, grass, Fish,

  1. What are the benefits of composting?

Composting reduce pest problems and the use of pesticides, It also will help with improving moisture retention. Composting will also produce better quality Flowers, plants, fruits and vegetables.

  1. Why does compostable material that goes to a regular landfill not break down as quickly as in a compost environment?

Organics in landfills breakdown in a way that does not involve oxygen, instead it produces methane gas

  1. Do you recycle? Why, or why not?

Yes, because my trach people will issue a fine, also it is just good to do. It help reuse materials that are usable instead of taking away from the earth.

  1. What ways can your community Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle?

My community has a recycle program, glass, plastic and paper is placed in a separate bin and is picked up two times a week. Reduce and reuse is difficult on a community basis because I don’t know what my neighbors habits are.
