Unit 5 Assignment

In this class I have learned a great deal about Networking. When I first started I knew only a little bit of networking. I am a programmer by the way. The class reading has helped a lot and it has not been too much of a burden it was a good amount of reading for someone just getting into networking. In unit one I learned about the most common types of network models. I was also able to compare various uses of networks typically used in business environments. I also love diving into Visio, I only learn of it about two terms ago.

During unit 2 I have learned more about networking, I learned more about networking details. One of the things that stuck out to me in unit 2 was the discussion post about a certain job and the requirements and having knowledge on a different job in same career. I believe it is important to know your job and have some knowledge of the other jobs around you just in case something goes wrong, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. We learned what to look for when there is a loss of connection. I learned that the first thing to check and most likely the issue is wiring.

As we progressed through class I learned about what bits and bytes are, and how they are standard part of computer is processing. During unit 3 is when I learned about bits and bytes, also learning about ip address and finding out my individual IP address by using command prompt. This kind of information is useful and being able to access my own IP address made it even better, it felt hands on instead of just learning about it. In unit 4 I learned about OSI Layers 1-7 protocols.

Each semester gets a little harder but I am learning so much as I progress through each unit. For this unit I am learning about Frames and packets and the other types of PDUs which means Protocol Data Units. Switching methods is also something I am learning about in this unit. The different types of topologies there are is amazing and now I understand the setup much better for different business. I have learned so much in this class and looking forward to learning more and using the information I learned later on in my career.
