Would the cost of becoming a member in one of the professional associations above, provide more benefits than joining one of the free networking sites, such as LinkedInĀ® or

MonsterĀ®? Justify your conclusion.

I definitely believe that joining any of these organizations would be more beneficial than joining a business networking site such as LinkedIn. For example, the Association for Technology Professionals holds regular chapter meetings in which members can network with one another in-person. You will also have the ability to join a national association and become a leader on your campus or for your school (AITP, n.d.).

This is a great opportunity to build valuable leadership skills that will help you now and in the future. You have the option to learn about career opportunities through the online community or by utilizing the career center. A weekly IT Insights newsletter is sent out that provides up-to-date information on the information technology industry. Monthly webinars are also held to provide current information on the industry (AITP, n.d).

Business networking sites such as LinkedIn and Monster can also be useful, but they donā€™t provide the opportunities for face-to-face communication that are provided by member organizations (AITP, n.d.).

Part 2: Describe the Code of Conduct for One Organization

  1. Select any one of the organizations mentioned above and describe how the code of conduct for this organization could contribute to your understanding of your social responsibilities were you to become a member of the organization.

The code of conduct for the AITP is not very long, but there definitely are guidelines that need to be followed in order to remain a member. The first guideline is that any member has an obligation to promote better methods of processing information to management. This means that I would need to figure out better methods to communicate information with other members of the organization. The code of ethics also says that anyone that is a member should always cooperate with their team members and treat them with honesty and respect (AITP, n.d.).

Some other rules of the organization are that any member has to keep information of other members private and to protect the interests of any employers that they are dealing with. Some of the values that go hand-in-hand with these obligations are trust and integrity. Members need to have the organizationā€™s trust that they will carry out all necessary requirements of being a member. They also need to have integrity in order to follow all rules of the organization, especially when other people arenā€™t watching (AITP, n.d.).

  1. Discuss the ways this organization provides leadership to the industry and for its members.

AITP provides leadership to the industry by encouraging its members to join their local chapter board or becoming a faculty advisor. These types of positions are usually positions that are tasked with representing their organization in a positive light and gathering useful information on how to improve the organization. This is very often done by answering questions from partner companies as well as people out in the community, which helps gain valuable advice on what needs improvement and what can be done to help the organization grow as a whole (AITP, n.d.).
