MGT302 Discussion 2 Week 2 Planning and Forecasting

Consider the advantages and disadvantages of using collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment (CPFR) in managing production and purchasing processes. What are the advantages and the disadvantages of CPFR? What sorts of businesses would gain the greatest benefit from using CPFR?

Advantages of using collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment (CPFR) in managing production and purchasing processes

Wisner (2007) defines The Collaborative Planning, Forecasting, and Replenishment (CPFR) as the collaborative effort needed when communicating with retailers and suppliers in planning efforts in an organization (Wisner, 2017). This comprehensive planning has many advantages and benefits ranging from improved management of inventory, increase in sale revenues, better and stronger relationships between the partners in trade, a system visibility which is overall better and improved cost structures and customer services. There is also reduction in stock outs (Hill,2018).

Disadvantages of using collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment (CPFR) in managing production and purchasing processes

The major disadvantage of using collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment (CPFR) in managing production and purchasing processes is that the scenario only works when both of the trading parties meet their requirements failure to which the requirements of the demand will not be met(Hill,2018).

What sorts of businesses would gain the greatest benefit from using CPFR?

I believe that most business would gain from using CPFR. This is because most of the business rely on different suppliers. They just need to have the right information that will help in planning and forecasting.
