MGT330 Assignments Week 2 Case Study Opening Your New Dunkin Donuts Locations
Introduction
I credit the leadership and management capabilities of my leaders for the success that I have attained. Their abilities to mentor and coach me have been instrumental in facilitating my performance. As well, my commitment to learning from every experience makes it possible for me to attain the best results. As a result, I will focus on two major areas to ensure that the new locations of the organization are functional and successful. First, I will concentrate on using the job design and organization design that are aligned with the services rendered by the organization. As such, job engineering and functional organizational designs will be the links to decision is founded on the features of competitive advantage and the reputation that we have built over the years. We are known for production of great coffee and donuts to our customers. In this light, ensuring that our customers are catered for in terms of the lever of product quality and customer service is of pivotal value. In a bid to maintain this advantage, utilizing a job design that fosters enhancement of production quality and fortifies quality services for the customer experience will be of great value.
According to Krishnakumar (2015), job engineering design is established on the need to ensure that tasks performed are well known. Considering this trait, the aspect of understanding each task that leads to high quality drinks is primary for our organization. In this light, ensuring that our employees are trained fully on the elements of each task carried out to ensure the quality of the coffee is exemplary is imperative. Understanding tasks goes along with the manner in which the workers are laid out. As such, the fact that job engineering design fosters consideration of job layout will be an instrumental factor in organizing the productivity of the organization.
The third element that rationalizes use of job engineering design is its concentration on work flows among employees. While specialization of labor is of critical importance in the production process of the firm, it is critical that each performer contributes to the work of a specific team. The contribution of each team player is imperative. Therefore, this design will enable the organization to come up with a strategy through which the work of each employee will be linked to other members. Building a sense of responsibility and linking it with the success of particular teams and ultimately the entire organization will be needed. This will call for Importantly, integration between people and machines is an important element of daily tasks at our working stations. Therefore, adoption of job engineering which provides a framework on how organizations can integrate human operators and machines facilitate the attainment of set goal. As such, training of employees on the need to focus on understanding the machines and delivering the target quality will be of great importance for the success of the organization.Ā
Ultimately, job engineering ensures that all players are involved in the process of making strong teams. These teams are important in ensuring that right from the preparation to the supply and selling to customers, the connection is maintained. Ensuring that the connection is kept intact and the customer gets the best prepares the organization to produce the best. It sets the stage for the concentration on what the customers need and delivering it precisely and in accordance with what the customer needs it. In this view, job engineering approach will facilitate the attainment of the target goal.
Organizational Design
As Baack, Reilly & Minnick (2014) note, organizational design is chosen on the basis of organizational size, geographic location and the types of products produced and how they are delivered to the customers. As such, considering the autonomy granted to the manager, I view the size of the firm as being small especially on the fact that each branch I will be heading will make decisions independently. According to this view, the need to have an organization design that
A functional organizational design will be used in managing the branches. One of the major reasons why this strategy will be instrumental is its emphasis on dividing the teams in terms of departments. Each department deals with a specific function that contributes significantly on the ultimate function of the organization. According to this view, ensuring that there is the department of drinks, donuts, service delivery and marketing will take care of the fundamental needs of the firm at a branch level. It will ensure that although the departments will be small, they will be satisfactory for the attainment of the entire organization.
Each department will have a leader who will ensure that the functions are delivered satisfactorily. As Stewart, Gruys and Storm (2010) notes, the organization has several areas that are different but linked. In this view, working towards ensuring that each element of the organization is less than one leader who reports to the general manager will be instrumental. This will ensure that each department has all that is needed to deliver results. It will play an important role in ensuring that the members can achieve all that they need to succeed.
Baack, Reilly & Minnick (2014) state that in a functional structure, reporting relationships are organized in such a way that specialty in terms of function is enhanced. In this view, ensuring that the group of employees in the coffee production department can access the necessary requirements to enable them deliver is of great importance. It will foster the functionality of the organization at the department level. These departments will be organized in a way that ensures a link. Maintaining the relationship will be the foundation for success of the organization.
Conclusion
Indeed, using job engineering and functional organizational structure will facilitate a smooth management of the organization in general. Job engineering encourages specialization of labor and encourages the utilization of skills in teams. As such, although different departments this design provides the basis on which this tasks performed by different groups within the work layout can be enhanced. It will be the foundation on which the employees can bring their efforts together to deliver on the high quality expectations of the customers. This is enhanced by adoption of functional organization structure. It promotes formulation of departments that are aligned in a way that fosters functionality of every department in which the organization functions.
