A great man told me “Your ego will be your downfall,” me; with an annoyed smirk on my face, both fists locked in a clinch. Although I didn’t say a word back, there was a constant voice in my head saying “I hate my Dad.” After what seemed like the longest silence, he then continued, “I’m one of the most truthful people in your life, I only tell you things to help you.” There was an inevitable force stopping me from echoing the same sentiments. There was no way I could bring myself to a neutral standpoint, agreeing and moving forward wasn’t an option for me. This event soon showed me that self-awareness is the goal, but self-evaluation would be the process. Of course, the great man is James Davis; my father, best friend, and adviser, his lessons; usually wrapped into a phrase or saying, have been a constant reminder about the importance of success in life. We often take our parents expectations, advice, and even love for granted. My father has been nothing short of a hero in my life although there have been numerous occasions that I have taken our relationship for granted.

The relationship that I and my father have could be defined as incomparable although our relationship has endured its fair share of tough situations. The weather was very beautiful on a late July day; a calm breeze brushed against the trees, neighbors happily jogging.
