IPv6

Given the following IPv6 address: 2008:0000:05A3:0000:0000:00FB:0C7A:FE29/64.

Simplify the address to be optimal in IPv6 (rewrite the address to be the shortest possible IPv6 equivalent address). Explain what you did. (10 points)

1st I will omit the leading zeros: So In this case, there are spots where there are a pattern of zeros, to shorten it we need to represent all the zeros with just one, so it would look something like this: 2008:0:05A3:0:0:00FB:0C7A:FE29/64

2nd We work with the Double colon: So, since there are two octets with zeros, we can do a double colon, but we can only be done once per address. 2008:0:05A3::00FB:0C7A:FE29/64

Given the diagram below. Assume the IPv6 prefix is 2005:007D:4500:000C::/64. Find the IPv6 EUI addresses for computers A and B. Show all your work. Do not just copy and paste the final answer to avoid losing points. (20 Points)

Computer A’s IPv6 EUI Address is:

Computer A - ::210:11FF:FEDA:6E71

Step 1 – Convert to binary

00 – 00000000

10 – 00001010 11 – 00001011

FF – 11111111 (added)

FE – 11111110 (added)

D8 – 11011000

6E – 01101110 71 – 01000111

Step 2 – Convert binary to hexadecimal

00 – 00000000 - 02

10 – 00001010 - 10

11 – 00001011 - 11

FF – 11111111 (added) - FF

FE – 11111110 (added) - FE

D8 – 11011000 – D8

6E – 01101110 – 6E

71 – 01000111 - 61 Step 3 – compress ::0210:11ff:FED8:6E71

Computer B’s IPv6 EUI Address is: Following the same steps:

::202:4AFF:FE5C:E1CP

The following IPv6 prefix, 2009:0000:00AF::/48, was assigned to ABC Corporation. You are required to subnet the given network to use a /64 subnet mask. Find the first 15 IPv6 subnets. List the subnets below, one subnet per line. (15 points)
