In contrast, Judiās development was influenced by being raised in an emotionally chaotic environment. Her father was an angry, abusive alcoholic, and her mother was anxious, depressed, and emotionally codependent. These negative psychological factors contributed to Judiās struggles with identity, emotional regulation, and mental health issues.
Social factors that have influenced Janās development include her active involvement in school activities, such as serving as the president of the debate team for three years. After graduating from high school with high honors, she pursued a successful law career. Jan has maintained productive, healthy relationships within her personal and professional circles, creating social bonds that have endured for decades. As a community pillar, she strives to help others through volunteering and advocacy. On the other hand, social factors influencing Judi’s development include her struggles with academic achievement and the inability to sustain gainful employment. From her teens, Judi experienced psychologically abusive relationships, leading to severe emotional distress. She has few friends and has faced paranoia, hallucinations, severe depression, and anxiety, resulting in substance abuse issues.

It is important to consider nature and nurture in combination throughout the lifespan because they are interdependent and continuously interact to shape an individualās development. Nature provides the biological foundation, such as genetic predispositions, which can influence how individuals respond to their environment. Nurture, including life experiences and social interactions, can modify these biological foundations by altering neural connections and activating or deactivating genes. This dynamic interplay highlights that neither nature nor nurture alone can fully explain development. Understanding how these forces combine helps us better comprehend human behavior and well-being. For example, a supportive environment (nurture) can enhance positive genetic traits (nature), while adverse experiences (nurture) can exacerbate genetic vulnerabilities (nature). This holistic approach is crucial for developing effective interventions and support systems that promote overall well-being throughout an individualās life.
